Squeeze – The Art Of The Cock: Week 23

IMG_0020 copy-3I like to squeeze. I like to squeeze the focal plane, mmm, yes. I like to squeeze the exposure gradient, ohh Yes!

The focal plane exists like a ream of paper. Each sheet in the stack is a point that your lens can focus on. As you move the lens closer to your subject more and more of the paper at the bottom of the stack becomes mush as does some at the top of stack. This can create really great selective focus even with a zoom lens. If most of your subject fits in the thickness a few β€œsheets” you can get even closer. When you do this, it squeezes the focal plane and most of the subject become flat. At the same time, you get bands of super sharp detail.

Taking advantage of the fact that my point and shoot camera has a wider exposure latitude than my iphone I was able to shoot in dim directional light and still get a full range of tone. But then I said fuck that shit and squeezed the tones down to a contrast level that makes the shadows blocked black and the highlights a crisp white. You may notice though that it’s not pure black and white. There is still a gradient of gray.

Do you like my exposure, Baby? Do you like how I squeeze?
