Magnum Man! – The Art Of The Cock: Week 11

Magnum Man!

Good sex and safe sex should never be at odds with each other. It is not only relevant to address condom fit as it pertains to pleasure. It is critical to do so. As you may know, the late Bobbie Morgan of the blog “A Good Woman’s Dirty Mind” was a huge proponent of Adult Sex Ed. Her article, “If you don’t like condoms you’re probably wearing the wrong kind,” was instrumental in opening my eyes on this issue. I was limiting my pleasure through inattention to the fit of the condoms I used. I had never taken out a ruler, measured my dick, then went online to find a better fitting prophylactic.Β  I finally took responsibility for my own pleasure and it has changed my mindset from one of frustration to one of optimistic excitement.

IMG_0002 3My erect penis measures between 6.25 and 6.50 inches long (depending on the moment) with a circumference of 5.50 inches. The length was measured by laying a ruler, as pictured, atop my erect penis and shoving it to my pubic bone. If you are chubby like me, you will have to really shove it in there because you know that cushion flattens during the pushin. The circumference was determined by wrapping a string around my penis at the base then measuring the string.

Depending on which study you read, my measurements mean that I am either on the high side of average or just above average. I am girthy according to any study and that’s important to know because condom girth sizing is more important than the length when it comes to safety and comfort. So, I did my Thick Dick Happy Dance around the room then got down to the work of finding an appropriately sized condom.

Before embarking on a condom shopping spree, I stopped off at www.condom-sizes.org for some suggestions. There are several references and calculators there but the most relevant to condom fit is the chart that compares condom width to penis circumference. The chart showed me that I require a condom with a base width of 2.28″ for maximum comfort and safety. This number is based upon a study in the International Journal of STD & AIDS that states, if a penis fills less than 80% of a condom’s nominal width, slippage is likely to occur. If a penis fills the nominal width of the condom greater than 90%, breakage is likely to occur. A condom shouldn’t be baggy or skin tight. It should roll on easily but not too easily and it should fit so you can move inside it. A better fitting condom feels better so safe sex is good sex.

I used to use the Lifestyles Ultra Sensitive condom. It has a base width of 2 inches and a length of 7.50 inches and it doesn’t taper. As you can see it is a very snug fit. In fact, if you didn’t see the tip, would you even know I was wearing a condom? It was uncomfortable to roll on and took some effort. It felt constricting and dull and if you look at both of these photos you will see that in the photo of the larger condom my glans are actually larger because they had room to be larger.

IMG_0016 2This is the Trojan Magnum.Β  Do you hear the trumpets heralding its arrival? Yes, I am a Magnum Man! In actuality the Magnum isn’t made for giant penises. It is 8.07 inches long with a base width of 2.13 inches but it flares up to 2.36 inches at the head. You may be wondering why I chose a condom that has a base width of 2.13 inches when I had established that 2.28 was the sweet spot number. Simply put, it’s only that small at the very bottom where it is less likely to break. Like anything in life it is good to try on several sizes and see what fits and feels the best. The Magnum feels good, real damn good. It rolls on easy, gives my head room to grow and move. There are thinner condoms on the market and ones that may fit better and I will be researching those but it is very comforting to me to know that I can go to any pharmacy and find a condom that is going to keep me and my partner safe and allow for maximum pleasure. Go now, measure your dicks. You deserve better sex.

  2. This is a very interesting post. I knew that men need to use condoms that fit properly, but I never knew there was such a ‘science’ behind it and didn’t stop to think that it could make such a difference to wear the right sized condom. Great post!

          1. I am just re-reading this comment. There was an “F” missing so it didn’t make much sense and I’m guessing “hey ho” is our version of “oh well” to indicate that you are frustrated but there is nothing you can do about it. In light of this, my proper response is, new and different clothes are nice but without a personal tailor, it is all so frustrating.
