The concept of photographic vision is understanding and planning how you want the finished photograph to look then making decisions to achieve that look. Before the invention of the snap shot, all photographs were carefully planned before the exposure was made. It is easy to forget that photographing, despite being almost automatic, requires thought and planning. It is easier to think this way when you change your language from “taking” a photo to “making” a photo.

Very few excellent photographs are made without some forethought, some design, some planning. You can get lucky, of course, but you will find you “get lucky” more often if you think about the final image before you press the shutter button.

When I saw the way light fell on the tip of the cock and fell off quickly behind the hand I knew that I could create drama in processing. I also knew that the texture of the fabric and the wrinkled texture of the glans newly emerged from foreskin would look so good in high contrast black & white.
